We describe Enterprise Resilience Management as a new enterprise architecture — one that integrates people, process, technology and data, and embeds automated, resilient response into organizational DNA.

For a detailed exploration of one of the critical innovations that allows technology to render complex, real-world business processes, spend time with this article in SOA Web Services Journal, co-authored by Enterra Solutions Chief Technology Officer Doug Todd.  He and co-author Professor Matjaz Juric explain how Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) can incorporate human workflow, together with automated processes, in a Service Oriented Architecture, to meet complex, cross-organizational challenges.

Much of the material is technical, as you would expect.  But even if you are approaching the topic from a general management perspective, there is much to be learned.  Have a look at the case study example, which illustrates how a critical process — new customer acquisition in a retail bank — can, through the integration of human workflow and rule set automation, be made resilient to such challenges as the compliance demands of the USA Patriot Act and the Bank Secrecy Act.

Resilience is created not by technology alone, not by best practices alone, but by the groundbreaking integration of the two.  Doug’s article shows how.

As they say in the blogosphere — worth a look.
